Merengue
Merengue is from the Dominican Republic.
It is probably the most danceable form of Latin-American music and also the fastest rhythm. Merengue is started in a farmer area in Siboa in the first part of the nineteenth century. It existed of European and African influences and instruments. It was used by the Dominicans as a resistance against their neighbor country by which they were separated in 1844.
Merengue has mainly become known, in the West, by Juan Luis Guerra.
The traditional Merengue is played with a ‘Tambora’ (drum), ‘guiro’ (rasp), saxophone/trumpet and an accordion. Now a days the music is extended with a piano, a bass, bongo’s and percussion. The accordion is often replaced by a synthesizer.
Is to be extended.
