Rueda de Casino

Rueda de casino is a dance for a group, in which at least three pairs dance son montuno, in a circle.
The dance is original from Cuba. Rueda de casino is Spanish and literally it means: the wheel from the casino. In principle pairs are dancing in a circle.
During dancing there’s a constant change of partners. This is what makes the Rueda (how we call it from now on) a lively and spectacular dance.

Caller

He calls the names of the combinations that are going to be danced. He can also makes this clear by hand moves which is very handy on crowded parties.

Leaders

Mostly the men. They lead the woman they are dancing with at that moment.

Followers

Mostly the women.

In contrast to other forms of salsa dancing, with this dance it’s important that women know the calls as well. In that way she can help the leader when he has mist a call.

A rueda has no specific choreographic, although the participants need to know some specific figures and routines. The leader of the group gives orders through terms or hand moves, to make certain figures. Names are for instance ‘enchufla’, ‘adios a la hermana’, ‘setenta’ en ‘dame’. The dance is generally entered by a so called ‘dile que no’.
